All over the world there was some amazing performances. Lille LOSC beat Lyon twice in the same week, Sport Recife continued their surprise play in the Copa Libertadores by beating defending champions Liga De Quito 2-0 and then finished their week with a 4-2 win over Salgueiro in the Pernambuco State Tournament. So you know that to be the TOW you have to win or do something positively equivalent to winning. Those teams were great this week but not good enough to win the TOW, therefore let’s reveal the title holder for this week. Toulouse Football Club (FRA)
The World Cup Buzz Team Of The Week visits France and highlights the fantastic week of Toulouse Football Club. Le Téfécé have been the surprise of Ligue 1. Last season they avoided relegation by1 point and this year they are in 4th place even with 3rd place Marseille on points.
On Tuesday, Toulouse defeated Ligue 2 side Boulogne-sur-Mer 2-0 on the road to advance to the quarters of The Coupe De France. The hero was Xavier Pentecôte whose brace sealed a date against Lille in the last 8. Then on Saturday, in the big game of week in France’s top division Le Téfécé beat Bordeaux 3-0 at home to move ahead of Bordeaux into 4th place.
Toulouse has not lost a match since November and are pinning their hopes on André-Pierre Gignac and their defense. Gignac is the top goal scorer in Ligue after scoring his 16th against Bordeaux. Toulouse’s defense has only allowed 17 goals this season which is also the best in Ligue 1 and its anchored by recent French national team call up, keeper Cédric Carasso.
