Buffon, Chiellini, De Rossi and Gilardino will likely form the backbone of the Azzurri unless there is a major injury or suspension.

The current team has experience but lacks fresh legs and the aging Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Grosso and Gattuso will hold the team back if they play regularly. Cannavaro will certainly start but it is time the other three are confined to the history books. Chiellini will be key so he must be healthy to compensate for Cannavaro’s decline.

I agree Rami, i’ve never been a fan of Gilardino, I feel hes too inconsistent and doesn’t have the drive of a lot of players

I do wonder what striker will be taken in the Italian squad, just recently Amauri has got his Italian citizenship but he’s having a poor season.

I’ve always been a fan of Pazzini and I know last season when he started at Sampdoria many people were calling for him and Cassano to lead the line. I’d personally like to see Luca Toni return to the national team in the starting role, he’s got an amazing goal scoring record and is a dangerous weapon to have in your team, he’s been playing well for Roma since hes went on loan there. Still though, I think its hard to call what strikers will be going!

I suppose their love of Cannavaro is much like England’s love of Beckham, it’s hard to let go of the legends that have served your country so well.
