Manchester City Needs To Sack Italian Manager Roberto Mancini

roberto mancini Manchester City Needs To Sack Italian Manager Roberto Mancini

I know that this is a bit of a bold statement to make about a man who has kept his side at the summit of the Premier league table practically since it kicked off back in August. But watching City huff and puff against Liverpool in the League Cup semi final poking at them with the imagination and creative spark of a spineless hedgehog it was plainly obvious that Mancini, the manager, has nothing up sleeve. It is fast coming to light that he is no tactical magician to compete with the likes of Guardiola or Mourinho and there is no doubt that the miserable git is no motivational speaker like Sir Alex Ferguson. The Liverpool match was not the only game in recent weeks where City have been found wanting. A 0-0 draw with West Brom and defeats to Sunderland and Chelsea all followed a similar pattern. City kept the ball well without creating too much before relying heavily on knocking the ball to Aguero in the hope that he can conjure something special. But if their league form has been dismal of late then their Champions League campaign was a total disaster and one that simply underlines my point, Mancini is not a great manager.

Yes Mancini’s side look fantastic on occasions but when you have spent 1 billion or whatever it is on top notch players you would expect them to click and be able to perform, but it is when things are not quite going to plan that you need your manager to work his magic and it is here that Mancini falls short as he seems to be very limited when it comes to making quick, sharp tactical decisions. Chelsea had a similar problem when Roman Abramovich took over the club. They had Italian tinker man Claudio Ranieri at the helm and the Russian billionaire gave him all of the money he needed to bring success to Stamford Bridge. But it was soon clear that Ranieri lacked what was needed to make the team gel and Abramovich wielded the now infamous axe and brought in Jose Mourinho instead and we all know what happened next.

Roberto’s man management skills also have to be called in to question. A number of stars including Craig Bellamy, Emmanuel Adebyour and Carlos Tevez have left questioning his methods, his personality and his attitude.

Now all you City fans out there can sit up on your high horses and start singing “Who is top of the league,” at me, and yes I agree with you that City will probably win the Premiership this season, but lets take a look at the other contenders. Manchester Utd’s squad is paper thin, Chelsea have become distinctly average, Arsenal are re-building and although Liverpool have the best defence in the league goals are proving harder to come by than a sober Irishman for the Merseyside club especially with the 35 million flop Andy Carroll leading the line. In fact City’s main challengers might end up being Tottenham Hotspur, but again only if they can stay clear of injuries.

City are a good team no doubt about it but I feel that last season’s FA Cup win only papered over the fact that Roberto Mancini is not the man to lead them to greatness. If City’s super rich board really do want to compete with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid then the tough decision to sack the Italian will have to be made and sooner rather than later.

I do like Mancini, however to say that he will only get better with
experience is ridiculous! He took Inter to successive titles back
to back! So what experience does he need? Lets just take a look at
this in context: 1 Billion spent on players… ANY one can put a
team out that can win! Even if you are Jo Blo!

Agree with the author. Mancini is an ordinary manager who has
benefitted from a competitive advantage at both clubs he has
managed. Considering the money they’ve spent and the squad they’ve

You can all sit there and fling abuse at me but for all the goals
all the hype and all the money spent city are out of the fa cup and
champions league. They lost at home to an ordinary Liverpool team

What like Fergie? That top coach is behind the one that you say
should be sacked. He’s been knocked out the league cup by a lower
div side, luckily scraped past city in the FA cup even though City
had 10 man for 80 minutes of the game and is out of the easiest
Champions league group that’s ever been put together for a so
called top team to easily go through not to mention they got beat
by a pxss poor Blackburn bottom of the league team (is that better
than an odinary Liverpool?)and got smashed by that rubbish manager
6-1 both at home. Did this top manager and team slip your mind?

Interesting to hear all the intelligent (?) responses to this
OPINION. It’s not news, it’s OPINION. Not defending the lad, but if
all you City dinks want to accurately tell us all how wonderful
mancini is, start your own site. Seriously, you can’t take
constructive criticism? There are some valid points made. Mancini
is not a “brilliant” manager. He decisions are “interesting” at
times. Not as interesting as KD over at Looserfool though. City has
what, one clean sheet ? Hardly dominant. See, a tactically astute
manager would recognize that scoring dries up during a long season
and if you have a solid back line, you can overcome these dry
spells. City with all the firepower have dried up in past weeks and
their life and death to win a game. If Mancini was as smart as you
City people think he is, he would never ever rely solely on scoring
to win. Besides, any manager with a budget like he has and still
whines and complains about he needs more players is actually scared
of having his own weaknesses exposed. And that is he’s not all that
astute. Enjoy whatever you can get now, cause in the coming years,
you won’t be playing in any UEFA games. The financial dealings, the
debt will come back to bite you.

they are. We should have smashed Barca in the final too at least
4-0. It should have happened because city are the first club to
spend big money on players and if you spend about 300m in 3 years
you should be the best in the world because on fantasy manager i am

@Jason Trouble beating the best teams, have you seen our results
thus far against the so called best teams in the league? If you
had, you’d know that statement makes no sense whatsoever… “City
is a great team but its because of all the quality players and the
enormous squad.” What? So we’re a great team because we have great
players? I also love the enormous squad line too, even though our
squad is exactly the same size as everyone else is, as allowed
under the rules, priceless… Mancini is the man, unless you’ve
watched 90mins of each and every City game, how can you possibly
have a go at Mancini’s tactical astuteness? Let me guess, Alan
Hansen said it to you on MOTD, in a 5 min highlight reel? Whoever
your team are, focus on them pal, as you know nothing about my

I got to agree with the article here. City is a great team but its
because of all the quality players and the enormous squad. Mancini
as a manager for me that is average and i don’t think he got what
it takes to compete on all fronts (PL, CL, FAcup and Carling Cup).
Because in cups you need much more than just great players you need
good tactical management and know how your oponent is going to play
and adjust to that. Just learn from what Benitez did with an
average Liverpool team in the cups but was poor in the league
because the squad wasnt good enough. He won alot of important
matches because hes ability to controll games with hes tactics and
management combined with the players extra motivation for big games
like CL and FAcup. You cannot aproach things that way in the league
over 38 matches because morale and motivation will go up and down
from game to game and players cannot focus 100% in every game and
you will come far in the league by just having the best squad with
different players coming in and going out of the team and maybe
give something extra when they get the chance to play. Acutally i
have my doubts that City will win the league this year because i
think they will have trouble beating the best teams because of
Mancinis wrong approach to the games. They will ofc win some of
them but thats because they the sickest players and you will come
far with just that but maybe not all the way.

flash. Three defeats in the last six in all competitions against
Liverpool, Utd and Sunderland a 0-0 draw with West Brom and a
fortunate win against Wigan who happen to be bottom of the league.

If City fans and owner are happy with Mancini as our manager, now,
and into the future, what has it got to do with you???? If you
watch every single minute of every game City play, then I am fairly
confident you would come on board as well, as we all feel Mancini
IS tactically astute, and has on many occasions this season changed
players and formation during play with great success, not to
mention picking the correct first eleven from the onset. Mancini
wanted four strikers at the start of the season, and a midfielder
(Daniele De Rossi specifically) – so he is merely asking for what
he believes will make City a force to go the distance in the Prem
and the Champions League in future seasons – he’s not whinging,
just asking for the final pieces in the jigsaw puzzle. Mancini is
an experienced manager and winner in Italian football, and now he
needs to learn how to dominate English football, as obviously he
isn’t the finished article just yet, but he is doing a bloody
fantastic job so far – if he left City, there would be top clubs
falling over themselves to sign him up – like the team, he will
only get better – and if you disagree, let’s see if results prove
me right at the end of the season, you can write another article
correcting this one. Oh, he hasn’t spent a billion pounds, less
than half that, but if you need to exaggerate to make your point,
it’s a weak one isn’t it? Finally, judge Mancini on results rather
than media hype and your own biaised opinions – current league
table suggests he’s the best manager in England, and who the fuck
wants to watch the boring anti-football drudge that Mourinho serves
up?? Not Abramovich for a starter.

Good grief, what a load of drivel. When the Sheik and Mancini
rolled into town all the wise bloggers stated with authority that
it would take more than money to win anything, it would take time
for a team to gel and that stability was the key. Yet here we are
now and this blogger (I use the term very loosely) states that
Mancini is inept and we should get rid of him because we were
knocked out of the Champions League (at our first attempt), we are
out of the FA cup (because of dubious refereeing) and beaten by a
weak Liverpool team in the League cup (even though its two legs and
we aren’t out yet). You use Yaya and Silva to show we aren’t as
creative without them, what team wouldn’t be? But of late you can
also throw Balotelli, Kompany, Kolo and Richards on the missing
list. This is what managing is all about and the fact we are still
3 points clear at the top with a vastly superior goal difference
I’ll throw my lot in with Roberto rather than heed your “advice”. I
agree you are entitled to an opinion but when that opinion is as
flawed as yours you should really admit your folly instead you post
a reply attempting to defend the indefensible it shows you for the
    halfwit you are.

Kompany, Richards, Balotelli, Zabaleta, Lescott and many more have

You obviously don’t watch city a lot, why yo’ud choose to comment
on them is strange… His man management of ‘stars’ adebayor,
Bellamy and Tevez (SAF man managed him really well too eh?) were
all Mark Hughes buys, and obviously wanted him to stay, he has
built and team and got them playing fantastically. You fail to
point out we lost 4 games domestically, chelsea was an unlucky
result, sunderland was a game we should have won, (not down to
mancini we just couldn’t finish), United was an obvious one,
80minutes with 10 men, and due to mancini using his head for
tactics were we able to come away with it being a very close
result, then liverpool, no Kompany, Silva, Toure, Dzeko, Balotelli?
5 players who have done a lot for us this year, take 5 top players
out of any team in England and they would play worse than we did
against liverpool… clueless people out there who are obviously
obsessed with city, concentrate on your own team!

Not bagging City as a club, good luck to them they have definitely
added spice to the league and brought over some class players and
it is great for the league to have someone other than Utd and
Chelsea stealing the headlines. I just don’t think mancini is the
man to get u up there with the likes of Barcelona which is what
City have to be aiming for with the money being spent. If you don’t
like what I think fair enough but fucking grow up, get over it and
keep hoping that City win all before them so that I am the one that
looks like the wanker at the end of the season.

It doesn’t need to be the end of the season you’re there now! Why
do City fans need to hope? Utd’s last 6 games, 4 relegation
candidates they lost to one of them a poorer than ever Fulham and a
Newcastle side that embarrassed them and before you get on the
Spurs bandwagon go look who is left for them to play talk about a
hard run! I fear Chelsea more than Spurs and think they will finish
higher Utd have been poor most of the season yet we are told that
some of their scraped 1 goal victories are the work of Champions
yet we beat Wigan in this manor and it seems it’s not the case for
          City! Look past your nose!

It gives me nothing but pleasure to read how defensive City
supporters are of Mancini. Their support makes it more likely that
he’ll remain in situ for longer and thus limit their chances of
genuine success. I can only imagine City supporters are so drunk on
the little success they have had so far, their gratitude to the man
who delivered it has blinded them from the bigger picture. We’re
doing you a favour here guys. You are very good. But understand
that you could and should be out of sight. Just by binning off
Mancini and appointing a real manager. Recognise this.

I’m a City fan and I have to say there was nobody more then me
complaining about Mancini last season. It seemed he was afraid of
the bigger clubs and played defensive against them, too much
tactics and not enough spirit. But in fairness, I’m big enough to
admit i was wrong about the man. He has had the balls to tell Tevez
were to go, he’s getting the best out of balotelli and they are
playing some great attacking football, even against the bigger
clubs. I hope his adventurous style this season is rewarded with
    the title.

Ferguson’s biggest failure is that in his quarter of a century as
Man U manager, he hasn’t once created a genuinely great side. Many
good ones but none compare to the Brazil or Holland of the 70s, the
Liverpool of the 80s, Milan of the 90s or current Barcelona etc…
You’ve got to set your standards high. It’s harsh to criticise
Ferguson or Mancini for their relative successes but at the same
time, just how ambitious are you? Do you want to be good or great?

I totally agree with the article, any manager who’s team sits 3
points clear at the top of the Premier League needs sacking
immediately, preferably before we beat Spurs on Sunday. If the
unthinkable happens and we beat Spurs and Utd lose and we go 6
points clear, I’ll be straight down to the Etihad to rip up my
season ticket (or maybe melt my card with a lighter) and demand for
    Mancini’s head.

It’s not rocket science folks. Spend a mind-boggling sum of money

So who do you propose to fill his shoes mid-season? You have a
manager whose team is top of the table and you want to give him the
sack. Do you think Mourinho, or Wenger or Sir Alex will be waiting
to fill his shoes? HA! If so you are daft calling for his job
without some idea of a replacement. Be a problem solver son, not a
problem causer. Do us a favor and toss your City shirt in the
rubbish bin, you have probably only owned it for a few weeks or
months anyway. Buy that United, Arsenal or Liverpool shirt your
friends have and you know you really want anyway. By the way, why

No point criticizing the article because it is clearly opinion
based, but there are 3 major issues which negate it (and they’re
actually made by the writer): 1) Mourinho is fortunate (both with
Chelsea and Inter) since he took over two teams ready for success.
He took over Inter after Mancini who had already won Serie A titles
while the main contenders Milan and Juve were punished by
Calciopoli so you cannot use Mourinho’s time after Mancini as a
point to show Mancini is worse than this coach or that. Mancini
actually put Inter back on the map with the help of Calciopoli. As
for Ranieri, he also helped Chelsea improve and set the foundations
for Mourinho who took over and then Chelsea’s owner began to spend
even more. To say all the spending took place under Ranieri is
wrong. The fact is more money was put into players once Mourinho
took over. Check Mourinho now with Real Madrid (he has C. Ronaldo)
and the club readily and willingly spend yet they cannot win the
Champions League or La Liga as of yet. Why? Because Mourinho must
deal with an equally strong club in Barca. Mourinho has been
fortunate to take over the richest and strongest clubs (during his
spell) in their respective country. He’s a smart guy no doubt but
not a genius of a coach. 2) ManCity just smashed ManU 6-1 this
season and the FA Cup loss came after some questionable calls (mind
you I am not a City fan). If you’re Barca and you lose Messi and
Xavi what happens? Same here, ManCity without Silva (and sometimes
playing injured or not 100%) and Yaya away. A loss to Liverpool in
League Cup isn’t the end of the world. Didn’t ManU give up on FA
Cup, yes FA Cup, years ago? And we regularly see the bigger teams
give up on the League Cup (check Arsenal and ManU). 3) City’s
spending has been massive but so did Chelsea (years back) in order
to win titles. Let’s face it these two clubs are not Liverpool or
ManU or even Arsenal to have a strong base or historic background
to have equal footing to compete with England’s elite. Chelsea did
it through spending years ago. City are doing it now by spending.

Man City’s position in the league is only aided by the fact that
they struck gold at a time when other teams were hurting either
financially or player wise. Man City wouldn’t have had it easy if
say, Man Utd or Chelsea had the same deep pockets that Man City
    have now.
