Mexico have announced tonight the sacking of their manager; Sven-Göran Eriksson. The former England England manager joined the Mexican national side last year; but he  won only one of his last seven matches

Eriksson was confirmed by Manchester City, in June last year, to have left the club by ‘mutual consent’; within three weeks he had started his tenure as the Head Coach of Mexico.

Eriksson’s first match was on the 20th August 2008 versus Honduras, Mexico won the match 2–1. The following results were poor, culminating in a 2–0 loss against the Unites States in February; the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol Asociacion and the Swede were coming under pressure to part ways, but in early March Eriksson was still fervently insisting that he would stay on and help Mexico qualify for the World Cup.

However despite his best efforts Eriksson was unable to convince the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol Asociacion  that he was still the best man for the job.
